The use of data to inform the decision support system is critical in identifying, introducing, and monitoring new evidence-based practices. The Michigan State Department of Community Health, in collaboration with a university-based evaluator and community providers, generated a state database on youth outcomes, using the Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS). These data, shared with a wide group of stakeholders, were employed to determine outcomes for treatment-as-usual in community centers, help identify which consumers would benefit from evidence-based practices, assist providers in using their site-specific outcome data for continuous quality improvement, and generate empirical support for local exemplary programs. This approach has led to wide support for statewide adoption of evidence-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral treatment for depression and parent management training.
