Age differences in the correlates of perceived status.

Thirty seven 10-yr-old and 35 13-yr-old boys were investigated as to whether dominance shifts with age from being associated with aggression to being associated with prosocial behavior and sociometric status. Perceived dominance was associated with hitting and bullying among 10-yr-olds, although among 13-yr-olds it was more closely associated with sociometric status. The measure of perceived dominance produced rigidity scores comparable to those found using behavioral measures of dominance.
