Research Institute Director Appointed

D. Richard Hammersley of Gold Hill (near Medford) has been appointed director of administrative services at Oregon Research Institute in Eugene.

He will direct administration of grants, personnel and the budget of the independent organization which was established in 1960 for research in the behavioral sciences.

Hammersley, born in Klamath Falls, holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Oregon and a Juris Doctor’s degree in law from the American University in Washington, D.C. While in Washington he worked part-time on Oregon Senator Maurine Neuberger’s staff. He graduated from Crater High School, Central Point, (near Medford), in 1959.

The Oregon Research Institute includes six Ph.D. psychologists. Currently, areas of human judgment, personality assessment and learning theory are being researched under National Institutes of Health grants. The research institute also has a contract with the Peace Corps to study membership selection procedures.
