Forgatch, doctora y cient\u00edfica em\u00e9rita, pas\u00f3 gran parte de su carrera trabajando con el grupo que finalmente se convirti\u00f3 en OSLC. Desarroll\u00f3 y prob\u00f3 programas para familias cuyos hijos corren riesgo de abuso de sustancias y problemas de adaptaci\u00f3n. Su programa <em>Parenting through Change<\/em> (PTC) est\u00e1 reconocido como \u00abPrograma eficaz\u00bb en el Registro Nacional de Programas y Pr\u00e1cticas Eficaces (NREPP por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s). Durante los \u00faltimos 10 a\u00f1os, la Dra. Forgatch y su equipo han adaptado y aplicado el <em>PTC<\/em> para su uso con diversas poblaciones, incluidos latinos que no hablan ingl\u00e9s, madres que viven en refugios para escapar de la falta de hogar o la violencia, padres con ni\u00f1os con trastornos emocionales graves y padres cuyos hijos han sido retirados por razones de abuso o negligencia. En la actualidad, el programa se est\u00e1 adaptando para los soldados que se reintegran a casa tras su servicio en las guerras de Irak o Afganist\u00e1n. Junto con su equipo, ha llevado a cabo varios proyectos de aplicaci\u00f3n a gran escala, entre los que se incluyen: PMTO a nivel estatal en Michigan en Centros Comunitarios de Salud Mental para ni\u00f1os con trastornos emocionales severos; PMTO a nivel nacional en Noruega, Islandia, Holanda, y PMTO en Centros Comunitarios de Salud Mental y de Justicia Juvenil en el condado de Detroit-Wayne en Michigan. Un enfoque adicional para el trabajo del Dr. Forgatch incluye el desarrollo y la aplicaci\u00f3n de medidas de observaci\u00f3n directa de la interacci\u00f3n familiar para evaluar los cambios en el proceso familiar y las sesiones de intervenci\u00f3n para evaluar la fidelidad en la implementaci\u00f3n del modelo PMTO.
