Tom comenz\u00f3 su prol\u00edfica carrera en OSLC como asistente de investigaci\u00f3n de Jerry Patterson. Sus intereses inclu\u00edan comprender el desarrollo del comportamiento antisocial y el abuso de sustancias en ni\u00f1os y adolescentes, as\u00ed como dise\u00f1ar intervenciones y programas de prevenci\u00f3n eficaces. En particular, \u00e9l y sus colegas examinaron la contribuci\u00f3n de la din\u00e1mica de los compa\u00f1eros y la familia a la escalada del consumo de sustancias, la delincuencia y la violencia entre los adolescentes. Su investigaci\u00f3n sobre la intervenci\u00f3n se centr\u00f3 en la eficacia de las intervenciones centradas en la familia y en los efectos negativos de agrupar a j\u00f3venes de alto riesgo en grupos de intervenci\u00f3n. Junto con sus colegas, desarroll\u00f3 y est\u00e1 poniendo a prueba un enfoque adaptativo y personalizado de la intervenci\u00f3n familiar, cuya piedra angular es el Family Check-Up (chequeo familiar). M\u00e1s recientemente, Tom fue fundador y director del Instituto REACH, as\u00ed como profesor de Psicolog\u00eda, en la Universidad Estatal de Arizona. Antes de eso, fue investigador cient\u00edfico en el Centro de Aprendizaje Social de Oreg\u00f3n. Public\u00f3 m\u00e1s de 100 informes cient\u00edficos sobre estos temas, as\u00ed como libros para padres sobre la gesti\u00f3n familiar y para profesionales que trabajan con ni\u00f1os con problemas y sus familias.<\/p>\n<p>Quienes tuvieron la suerte de trabajar al lado de Tom saben de su humildad, generosidad y ternura.
