These problems can lead to difficulties in school, and functioning in school is linked to long-term health and development. Early intervention to reduce emotional and <a title=\"Learn more about Behavioral Issue\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/medicine-and-dentistry\/behavioral-issue\">behavioral issues<\/a> can help children successfully transition to school, which can improve long-term outcomes. However, communities need information on relative costs and benefits associated with programs to make informed choices. The objective of this study was to assess <a title=\"Learn more about Cost Effectiveness\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/medicine-and-dentistry\/cost-effectiveness\">cost effectiveness<\/a>, over 12\u00a0months, of the Kids in Transition to School (KITS) intervention compared to usual services available to children in a foster care control group (FCC).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"as0010\">\n<h3 id=\"st0015\">Method<\/h3>\n<p id=\"sp0065\">Randomized controlled trial of 192 children in foster care entering kindergarten who were randomized to KITS (<em>n<\/em>\u00a0=\u00a0102) or FCC (<em>n<\/em>\u00a0=\u00a090). KITS includes school readiness groups and <a title=\"Learn more about Parent management training\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/medicine-and-dentistry\/parent-management-training\">parent training<\/a> over 4\u00a0months. Main outcomes were days free from internalizing symptoms (IFD), days free from externalizing behavior (EFD), intervention costs, public agency costs, and incremental cost effectiveness.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"as0015\">\n<h3 id=\"st0020\">Results<\/h3>\n<p id=\"sp0070\">KITS significantly increased IFD and EFD compared to FCC. Average total cost of the intervention was $932 per family. The intervention did not significantly impact usual services.
