Se invit\u00f3 a participar a todo el cuarto curso de chicos y a sus padres de barrios de renta baja seleccionados al azar en la zona de Eugene-Springfield. La muestra consisti\u00f3 en dos cohortes, con un a\u00f1o de diferencia, que ten\u00edan entre 9 y 10 a\u00f1os de edad al inicio del estudio y fueron evaluadas anualmente. El tama\u00f1o de la muestra era de 206 inicialmente, y de unos 192 a los 35 a\u00f1os.
