We will be posting regular updates about our progress.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Actions:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Created a DEI subcommittee, including drafting and obtaining approval of a subcommittee charter<\/li>\n<li>Dedicated an annual budget for DEI efforts<\/li>\n<li>Incorporated a standing agenda item to discuss diversity, equity, inclusion topics at committee meetings, board meetings, and monthly organization-wide meetings<\/li>\n<li>Hired a DEI Consultant:\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Completed a series of professional-led DEI discussions for all employees with Dr. Lake<\/li>\n<li>Added Juneteenth as a holiday for OSLC employees<\/li>\n<li>Started holding monthly Brown Bag Chat to open up space at OSLC\/ODI to generate dialog and conversations around DEI issues, including an anonymous staff feedback survey after each one (see full schedule below)<\/li>\n<li>Increased use of pronouns in everyday meetings (in names on Zoom, in email signatures, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Collected resources from staff to share internally and externally<\/li>\n<li>Spanish translations of OSLC and ODI webpages<\/li>\n<li>Updated recruitment and hiring policies to improve DEI, as well as practices to improve retention<\/li>\n<li>Created gender-neutral bathroom spaces<\/li>\n<li>Added a column within our internal database to include pronouns and encourage staff to check in on participants&#8217; pronouns regularly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oslc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/juneteenth.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oslc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/juneteenth-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Image that says &quot;Juneteenth: Freedom Day&quot;\" width=\"221\" height=\"166\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Plans in Motion:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Monthly coffee discussions with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drjohnnylake.org\/\">Dr. Johnny Lake<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Monthly Brown Bag Chats (see schedule below)<\/li>\n<li>Hanging welcoming posters and signs related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (which were chosen by our employees) in common spaces and individual offices<\/li>\n<li>Continue to monitor and update recruitment, hiring, and retention practices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3>Some Next Steps in the Works:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Identifying and measuring metrics to evaluate DEI efforts and progress<\/li>\n<li>Creating an official OSLC\/ODI policy and protocol for when to call crisis response (CAHOOTS) instead of calling the\u00a0police<\/li>\n<li>Continuing conversations about representing minority experiences<\/li>\n<li>Finding ways to increase use of people first language<\/li>\n<li>Noticing and replacing culturally appropriative language in our vernacular<\/li>\n<li>Finding ways to create a culture shift towards being open to feedback and correction around DEI topics, and creating ways to reinforce people stepping forward to provide feedback and people receiving that feedback gracefully<\/li>\n<li>Improving knowledge on being an effective ally<\/li>\n<li>Learning more about the tribes that are\/were originally located in the Eugene\/Springfield area<\/li>\n<li>Looking at the way we ask questions in research around sexual orientation, gender, race, and ethnicity, and what options are given as answers on forms we have families fill out<\/li>\n<li>Sharing resources to improve our use of culturally appropriate language<\/li>\n<li>Improving knowledge of how we can create a more inclusive culture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oslc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/DEI-Brown-Bag-Chart-Updated.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oslc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/DEI-Brown-Bag-Chart-Updated.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"990\" height=\"1258\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p><em>Find more information about our work to improve diversity, equity and inclusion:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oslc.org\/about\/diversity-equity-and-inclusion\/\">See our DEI statement here<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0|\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oslc.org\/blm\/\">See our BLM statement here<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0|\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oslc.org\/aapi-statement\/\">See our AAPI statement here<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0|\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oslc.org\/dei-resources\/\">See our DEI Resources here<\/a><\/h3>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are committed to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion within our organizations and holding ourselves accountable.
